Antoine Léon Morel-Fatio

Born in 1810.

Died in 1871.

Antoine Léon Morel-Fatio was a marine painter and draughtsman of Swiss origin. From 1849 onwards, he served as curator at the Musée naval du Louvre in Paris, where he contributed to enhancing the maritime collections. In 1853, he was appointed painter to the French Ministry of the Navy and Colonies, a role that reflects his commitment to the representation of maritime subjects.

Although less well known, his œuvre belongs to an artistic tradition devoted to the sea and its landscapes.
