Alice Jaquet

Born in 1916.

Died in 1990.

Alice Jaquet trained at the Kunstgewerbeschule Bern (School of Applied Arts in Bern), an institution mentioned in the documentation consulted. According to the sources, her artistic practice encompassed painting, drawing and illustration; SIKART also records work in tapestry and mosaic. In Geneva, she founded what the source describes as «la première Malschule»—wording reproduced as given in the dossier.

She held solo exhibitions at the Musée Rath, including an exhibition in 1950 and a retrospective of the painter Alice Jaquet in 1978, according to the entries consulted. The documentation also mentions international events in 1960, with presentations in London (Gallery of Arts) and New York (Gallery Feigel). Recognition of her work is attested by distinctions noted in the sources: the 1er Prix international REY-LEDUC in Paris in 1952, and a bronze medal as well as a distinction from the Société pour les arts, sciences et lettres in Paris in 1960.

Works by Alice Jaquet are held in public and private collections listed in the dossier, notably the Swiss Confederation (3 works), the Musée d’art et d’histoire in Geneva (listed with several entries, including 5 works), and other cantonal and municipal institutions, as well as corporate and foreign collections. A monograph devoted to her work was published: Alfred Berchtold et Pierre‑Francis Schneeberger, L’œuvre d’Alice Jaquet, Éd. de la Prévôté, Moutier, 1977.

The presence of her works on the market is documented by price databases: a survey consulted records 42 lots sold at auction under the name Alice Jaquet.
