Spyridon Scarvelli

Spyridon Scarvelli’s landscapes, vedute and seascapes range across Egypt, Italy and Greece, and are executed almost exclusively in watercolour. An auction catalogue states that he trained in Trieste and Rome.
The same catalogue characterises his landscapes by their atmosphere and luminosity, and highlights the place of watercolour in his oeuvre. The recorded titles and subjects provide an overview of this geography: “Nile, Egypt”, “View of Corfù” and a view of Venice with the Ponte della Paglia and the Piazzetta San Marco.
