Ludwig Lincke is presented as a landscape painter, burin engraver and etcher, thus combining painting with printmaking practices. He studied at the Academy in Berlin, where a notice places the beginning of his training in 1838, and also attended the classes of the engraver Heinrich Fincke. His landscape painting is described as influenced by that of Eduard Biermann and Friedrich Wilhelm Schirmer. Active in Berlin, he is also mentioned in Weimar around 1880.
His documented works include landscapes and genre scenes: Romantische Landschaft mit Reiter und Wanderer, dated 1855, is an oil on canvas signed “L. Lincke” at the lower left. Monogrammed and dated 1868, Jagdpause shows a seated hunter smoking a pipe with his pack in a summer clearing. Kegelvergnügen depicts a rural scene in front of an estate; this oil on canvas is signed “L. Lincke” at the lower right.
