Alois Zabehlicky

Born : 1883Died : 1962

Austrian still-life painter Alois Zabehlicky is described as working within an old tradition. The documented works bring fruit and flowers into dialogue with vases, glassware and everyday objects; some compositions also include insects or a bird’s nest. A floral still life dated 1921 is painted in oil on wood; in 1923, quinces, a wine glass and a vase form another arrangement, also executed on wood.

Dated circa 1925, a fruit still life with a jug is executed in oil on canvas mounted on panel. In 1929, bluebells, tulips and chrysanthemums take their place in a vase, alongside a nest and several insects. A work entitled “Still Life with Flowers and Fruit” is signed and dated 1944. The descriptions also mention large compositions of fruit, or of flowers and fruit, painted in oil on canvas.

This profile brings together identity references for Alois Zabehlicky and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
