Pierre Clerc’s research into the “Empreintes”, begun in 1970, found monumental expression in 1979 in large concrete wall sculptures inspired by them. According to a biographical note, he attended the École nationale des Arts décoratifs, the École des Beaux-Arts and the Institut d’Art et d’Archéologie in Paris. In 1958, he made his first trip to Japan on the occasion of the exhibition “La Nouvelle École de Paris”; from 1960 to 1968, he organised a room at the Salon Comparaisons. The same note also mentions trips to India, Ireland, England, the United States and Scandinavia.
Sale records document several works from different periods: Terre juvénile (1962), oil and oil pastel on encaustic on canvas, and Allégeance (1966), oil on canvas. The latter is recorded as having been presented at the Exposition Hepta, at the Musée Galliéra in Paris, in 1968. A gouache dated 1981 is described as an abstract composition with a figure; Ma préhistoire is listed as an oil on canvas measuring 64.5 × 50 cm. In 1986, a tribute to Clerc was organised at the Grand Palais as part of the Salon Comparaisons.
This profile brings together identity references for Pierre Clerc and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
