Known by the names Leonard Bramer and Leonaert Bramer, the artist lived from 1596 to 1674. The Kornfeld catalogue states that, after a period in France, he settled in Rome. According to the same catalogue, he returned to Delft in 1629.
A drawing of Noah kneeling with his entourage, dated 1634–1638, is described by Kornfeld as having been made after Bramer’s return from Italy. The composition is executed in pen and brush in ink, with washes and a few white highlights, on brown laid paper; the sheet measures 46.5 × 34.1 cm. The catalogue reports that a collector’s album comprising 55 sheets of similar format and technique, devoted to Old Testament subjects, was dispersed according to the 1938 inventory.
The Art Institute of Chicago also lists a Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine and a Man Climbing a Plank Towards a Boat, both dated 1660/69.
