Jean Philippe Sarazin

Born : 1736Died : 1795Documented citizenships : France

The French painter Jean-Philippe Sarazin is associated with landscape works documented in collections and auction records. The Albertina’s online collection database lists a work titled «Deux Paysages…» under the name Jean Philippe Sarazin: its title describes, in a landscape, a traveller and two women beside an artist drawing the countryside, followed by a wood crossed by a stream.

Another work, «La forêt de Villers-Cotterêts», is attributed to Sarazin by an auction house. Described as oil on relined canvas, it is monogrammed and dated, with the reading uncertain: «(17)82(?)». The published provenance of this painting mentions a sale at Koller Auktionen in Zurich on 28 June 2002, followed by private ownership in Switzerland. At the documented Dobiaschofsky sale, it was knocked down for CHF 650, against an estimate of CHF 600.

This profile brings together identity references for Jean Philippe Sarazin and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
