Paris Prekas (1926–1999), born and deceased in Athens, studied at the School of Fine Arts from 1948 to 1952. A French government scholarship enabled him to continue his research in Paris in 1963. His practice encompassed painting, sculpture and architectural decoration, including works for the interiors and exteriors of public and residential buildings.
Beginning with landscape, he developed groups of works combining Greek reality with myth and tradition. Geometric construction and abstraction organise these compositions, while his sculpture also incorporates Cubist and Expressionist elements. He participated in the Paris Youth Biennale in 1959 and the São Paulo Biennial in 1965. The Greek National Gallery holds Astyanax, Metsovo and Tanker; the European Parliament owns Cavalier, further demonstrating the range of his subjects.
This profile brings together identity references for Paris Prekas and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
