Herbert Schneider’s work lies between abstraction and representation, often in vivid colours; a biographical note cites Henri Matisse and Fauvism, as well as Bavarian folk art, among his points of reference.
An untitled work from 1969, listed under his name, is executed in mixed media on paper; it is signed and dated and measures 26 × 37.5 cm. An auction note also describes an oil-on-canvas still life as a work by Schneider: it is unsigned, bears his stamp on the reverse and measures 50 × 76 cm. Two lithographs, each accompanied by a poem, are listed under the titles “Hope” (1965) and “The vine”. The first is signed Herb. Schneider and dated 1965; both bear the inscription “Probedruck”, while the second is signed H. Schneider.
This profile brings together identity references for Herbert Schneider and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
