Stefano della Bella was a Florentine draughtsman and printmaker who also worked in Paris in the 1640s under the name Étienne de la Belle. His work moves between public ceremonies, figure studies and decorative designs. The Entry of the Polish Ambassador into Rome, an etching of 1633 assembled from six sheets, extends the procession over more than two and a half metres.
This breadth contrasts with the small scale of Group of Five Male Figures in Half-length, drawn around 1640–1650 in pen over black chalk. The catalogue connects this study with the projected treatise I principii del disegno. Design for an Ewer, around 1629, demonstrates another use of drawing, devoted to conceiving an object. These works show the varied purposes of his graphic practice.
This profile brings together identity references for Stefano della Bella and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
