Hermann Glöckner

Documented citizenships : Germany

Born in 1889 and died in 1987, Hermann Glöckner is a German artist whom Jean Mortier places among those who, in the GDR, retreated into a form of “inner emigration”. According to this study, he pursued his formal investigations in his studio, away from the public prominence of the time. Mortier characterises these investigations collectively as belonging at times to Informel, at times to Constructivism or Abstraction.

An untitled work designated “Faltung Weiß auf Rot” is described in a Lempertz catalogue as gouache on folded paper, measuring 20.8 × 14.7 cm. The catalogue notes that it is unsigned and in very good condition; the published provenance lists the Renate Glück collection in Dresden, followed by the estate.

This profile brings together identity references for Hermann Glöckner and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
