Eugène de Kermadec

Trained at the École des arts décoratifs from 1915, and then at the École des beaux-arts, Eugène de Kermadec joined the Cubist movement after 1918, according to the entry consulted. His career subsequently connected him with two Paris galleries: he was represented by Galerie Kahnweiler, and later by Galerie Louise Leiris. Among the works mentioned is Akt, dated 1939 and listed at the Kunstmuseum Basel.
Galerie Annick Gendron devoted a retrospective to him in 1973. A second, posthumous retrospective was held in 1977 at Galerie Louise Leiris, accompanied by the publication of a catalogue. In 2016, the museums of Belfort presented the retrospective exhibition “Eugène de Kermadec... et tout le reste du monde”; its catalogue was co-published.
Alongside his work as a painter, de Kermadec played tennis and competed in the second series. He was the father of Gil de Kermadec.
