Bernard Schultze

Bernard Schultze, a German painter born in 1915 in Schneidemühl, now Piła, and who died in Cologne in 2005, is presented as a representative of Art Informel. In 1952, he founded Quadriga with Karl Otto Götz, Otto Greis and Heinz Kreutz, placing his career within a collective endeavour. His early works were destroyed during an air raid on Berlin.
Among the documented works is « Gestein », made in 1996: this mixed-media work on paper is signed and dated, and measures 520 × 760 mm. Two catalogues devoted to his work are listed: « Die Welt der Migofs », associated with the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden in 1974, followed by « Tanz der Migofs. Bernard Schultze, 1915-2005 », at the Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie in Regensburg in 2005. The distinctions listed include the Wilhelm Loth Prize in 1966, the Lovis-Corinth Prize in 1986 and the Order of Merit of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1989.
