Aldo Bonadei contributed to modernism in São Paulo after studying with Pedro Alexandrino and Antônio Rocco and continuing his training in Florence. A member of the Santa Helena Group, he painted landscapes, flowers and still lifes while exploring abstraction. His interest in music informed work in which recognisable objects interact with lines, planes and geometric organisation.
The Still Life of 1947 at MAC USP is a watercolour on paper, whereas Vitral, painted in 1958 and held by the Pinacoteca of São Paulo, is an oil on canvas. These works demonstrate the range of supports he used. Bonadei also designed clothing and theatre costumes, extending the sewing activities practised within his family into another area of artistic work.
This profile brings together identity references for Aldo Bonadei and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
