Born in Algiers and deceased in 1932, Armand Point worked as a painter, printmaker and decorative artist. His career moved from Orientalist subjects towards Symbolism and an engagement with the Pre-Raphaelites. Italian journeys encouraged his interest in the Quattrocento, whose examples informed both his paintings and decorative work. Un rêve qui passe, painted in 1892 and held in Reims, depicts an elegant Parisian woman beside the Seine, with Notre-Dame in the distance.
In 1896, Point founded the Logis de Haute-Claire in Marlotte, bringing together decorators, goldsmiths and enamellers. The Coffret aux serpents, designed between 1897 and 1899 and held by the Musée d’Orsay, combines wood, gilded bronze and coloured enamels. Its animal and plant motifs connect painting and decorative arts through a shared concern with drawing, colour and ornament.
