Reena Saini Kallat

Born : 1973Documented citizenships : India

Reena Saini Kallat, born in Delhi in 1973 and based in Mumbai, examines borders and their effects on people and natural environments. Her works often bring separation together with connection, notably through rivers, which can serve both as territorial boundaries and as vital resources. She uses varied materials and media, ranging from drawing to sound installation.

Woven Chronicle reconstructs the world map through migratory routes. In the version presented in Vancouver in 2015, electrical wires, circuits and speakers give these movements material form. Sound and lines resembling barbed wire convey the difficulties of displacement. In Hyphenated Lives, of 2014–22, Kallat combines animals and plants adopted as national emblems into hybrid species, symbolically bringing countries in conflict together through their transformed symbols.

This profile brings together identity references for Reena Saini Kallat and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
