Moshe Gat, born in Haifa in 1935, is an Israeli painter and printmaker. He began studying at Jerusalem’s Bezalel School in 1952, then returned to Haifa in 1955 to teach drawing. A grant from the America-Israel Cultural Fund in 1957 enabled him to continue his career abroad. After visiting museums in France and Italy, he travelled to Mexico in 1958.
His Mexican stay occupies an important place in his work as a printmaker. The human figure, portraits and groups of children also belong to his pictorial repertoire. Among his techniques is woodcut: Neighborhood in Jerusalem, recorded in the Israel Museum’s collection documentation, demonstrates his attention to urban space alongside his continuing interest in people and their surroundings.
This profile brings together identity references for Moshe Gat and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
