Angelo Jank (1868–1940), born and deceased in Munich, specialised in paintings of horse racing. His teaching at the Munich Academy formed part of its opening to moderate modern currents in the early twentieth century. His equestrian subjects range from individual horse studies to hunting scenes, including Die Jagd, an oil on canvas painted around 1913 and now in the Neue Pinakothek collection. The Bavarian collection also includes Pferdestudie (1909) and Hinter der Meute (1902), demonstrating his sustained interest in these motifs.
La Femme au Perroquet, an 1898 colour lithograph for L’Estampe moderne held in Cleveland, brings a woman close to a large green bird. The flat yellow background, vertical framing and colour contrasts give their encounter a decorative organisation.
This profile brings together identity references for Angelo Jank and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
