The French painter Léon Félix Georges Bonhomme (1870–1924) trained with Jean-Jacques Henner at the École des beaux-arts in Paris, then attended Gustave Moreau’s studio, where he formed a friendship with Georges Rouault. Born in Saint-Denis on 9 October 1870, he died in Paris on 28 August 1924. He also taught drawing at the school on rue du Corbillon in Saint-Denis and received an honourable mention at the Salon des artistes français in 1897.
For the monumental staircase of the new town hall in Saint-Denis, Bonhomme created three allegorical frescoes: La Pensée émancipatrice de l’homme, La Bienfaisance and Le Travail. The works mentioned include Nu de profil au boa (1904), Femme nue debout (1909) at the Musée de Béziers, and Femme à l’éventail (1922). His work also includes pastiche: in particular, he pastiches the painting Les Filles de Rouault and several artists, from Francisco de Goya to the Impressionists.
