Born in Merate in 1936 and died in Santa Maria Hoè in 2008, Antonio Scaccabarozzi presented his first research works in the field of geometric abstraction in Milan. In 1959, he received a diploma from the Higher School of Applied Art at Castello Sforzesco. After this training, he spent a few years travelling, including in Paris, London and the Netherlands. The artist’s approach is described in terms of the rigour and lightness of his structures, as well as the role of colour and transparencies, conceived to establish an emotional connection with the observer.
In 1973, he exhibited in Karlsruhe with Dadamaino. Umbro Apollonio also selected works by Scaccabarozzi to present alongside works by Getulio Alviani, Agostino Bonalumi, Enrico Castellani, Piero Dorazio, Lucio Fontana and Mario Nigro.
A watercolour listed by Kornfeld is registered in the Archivio Antonio Scaccabarozzi under number 20/02; the entry states that a certificate of authenticity dated 12 June 2020 is available. For this work, Kornfeld mentions Lydia Megert Editions in Bern, followed by a private collection in Switzerland.
This profile brings together identity references for Antonio Scaccabarozzi and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
