Originally from Kerala, Bose Krishnamachari studied at the J. J. School of Art in Bombay and at Goldsmiths in London. His practice moves between brightly coloured abstraction, figurative painting and installations combining different media. It considers cultural memory and the processes through which particular images become established within an artistic canon.
Ghost/Transmemoir, shown in Indian Highway at the Serpentine, addresses change and impermanence in Mumbai. With LaVA he also developed a travelling installation that circulated through several Indian cities. Curating forms another substantial part of his practice. In 2012 he organised the inaugural Kochi-Muziris Biennale with Riyas Komu: eighty-nine artists from twenty-three countries occupied thirteen restored heritage sites. The project consequently brought contemporary exhibitions into the historical spaces of Kochi and connected them across the city.
