Trained in sculpture at the Royal Academy Schools from 1916 to 1921, Anna Zinkeisen received silver and bronze medals there. She also made designs for plaques commissioned by the Wedgwood company; these designs earned her a silver medal at the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1925. After this work, she specialised in portraiture and mural painting.
Mural painting led to commissions for large ocean liners: in 1935, John Brown and Company commissioned Anna and her sister Doris to create murals for the RMS Queen Mary. In 1940, the two sisters also contributed to the murals for the RMS Queen Elizabeth. During the Second World War, Zinkeisen worked as a medical artist and auxiliary nurse for the Order of St John at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. Around 1967, she created a mural devoted to the birds of the Bible.
This profile brings together identity references for Anna Zinkeisen and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
