Alexander Sitnikov was born in 1945 in Iva, in the Penza region. He studied graphic art at Moscow’s Surikov Institute from 1966 to 1972. A painter and maker of art objects, he developed a language in which allegory and myth transform everyday experience. Figures, signs and numbers appear within compositions whose colour ranges from a rich multiplicity to a restricted tonal scale.
Starting from figuration, his work gradually opened towards abstraction and signs. Reality. Abstraction. Reality, shown in Komsomolsk-on-Amur in 2025, placed his work alongside that of Olga Bulgakova and Natalia Sitnikova while maintaining their distinct approaches. The Museum of Saint Petersburg Art of the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries holds works from the series Native Speech and Moscow Time, as well as Bull and Wolf.
This profile brings together identity references for Alexander Sitnikov and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
