Mikko Oskar Oinonen, also known as Mikko Oinonen, trained in Helsinki before continuing his studies at the Académie Julian in Paris between 1908 and 1910. His meeting with Magnus Enckell in 1914 led him to join the Septem group. Landscape provides an important thread in his work: views of Meilahti, churches within their surroundings, shorelines and streams appear alongside the human figure. These subjects direct his painting towards the observation of familiar places and their spatial arrangements. During the 1930s, he passed on his experience at several Helsinki institutions and subsequently at the Free Art School. His career thus connected international training, participation in an artistic group and the teaching of art.
