SwissArtGallery · Documented identity
Born in Yerevan in 1966, Armen Eloyan lives and works in Amsterdam and Zurich. His painting combines observation and expression, appropriating forms associated with Pop Art and an expressionism described as close to De Kooning, which he uses as ways of apprehending contemporary society.
His work draws on images of mass culture—comic strips, advertisements and magazines—which he subverts and subjects to destructive treatment. The resulting expressive distortions convey critical irony. In his canvases, comedy is presented as a means of evoking the emptiness of the contemporary world.
A lot description documents, among other works, Jeunes mariés, an oil on canvas dated 1990 and measuring 75 × 80 cm.
This profile brings together identity references for Armen Eloyan and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
