The French painter Georges Frédéric Rötig (1873–1961) devotes his work to animal scenes, depicting animals in their everyday lives. He exhibits at the Salon des artistes français from 1894 onwards. His repertoire ranges from deer, wild boar, pheasants and partridges to chamois, moose and lions, and also includes frogs and dogs.
Between 1938 and 1958, his animal scenes illustrate around thirty covers of the magazine Le Chasseur français. Among the documented paintings is Sangliers dans les Vosges, an oil on canvas signed at the lower left and numbered below the signature. Several of his paintings are held in public collections, notably at the musée d’Art moderne André-Malraux du Havre, the musée de Picardie in Amiens, the musée de Cambrai and the musée Alphonse-Georges-Poulain de Vernon. Rötig dies in Paris on 20 August 1961.
