Pavel Pepperstein

Born : 1966Documented citizenships : Russia

Born in Moscow in 1966, Pavel Pepperstein is an artist, writer and theorist. The son of painter Viktor Pivovarov and writer Irina Pivovarova, he belongs to a generation shaped by Moscow Conceptualism. Following studies in Prague, he cofounded the Inspection Medical Hermeneutics group. Its drawings, texts and installations combined philosophical interpretation, linguistic play and the reworking of cultural discourse.

His individual practice brings together mythology, childhood imagination, Suprematism and visions of the future. Between 1998 and 2002, Kunsthaus Zug invited him to develop a series of collaborations within its Project Collection. These involved his father and, subsequently, Ilya Kabakov and Boris Groys in an exhibition conceived as a conversation. Temporary wall interventions gave this collective experience an ephemeral dimension that became central to his dialogue with the museum.

This profile brings together identity references for Pavel Pepperstein and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
