Paul de Lassence, also known as Paul Haerynck and Paul Lassence, trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels before spending nearly a year in London studying under Frank Brangwyn. Settling in Paris in 1912, he remained there for the rest of his life, in the studio at the Villa des Arts. Corsica, followed by Brittany, were among his sources of inspiration.
The works listed at the Maison du marquisat in Pont-Croix depict several sites in the town: a view of the lower part of the town, the Pen-ar-c'han wash-house and the Grande Rue Chère. An auction lot also describes a painting entitled “Le Pont Fleuri à Quimperlé”, painted in oil on cardboard, signed at the lower right and measuring 38 × 46 cm. “Le temple du hameau de la Reine” is among the other works mentioned.
His exhibition history includes solo exhibitions at the Galerie Georges Petit in 1925 and 1930, at the Galerie des artistes français in Brussels in 1926, and at the Galerie Mann in Luxembourg in 1930. He joined artists’ groups, including Syrinx in Switzerland, and took part in group exhibitions with Belgian painters in Paris.
