Paolo Paschetto

Born : 1885Died : 1963Documented citizenships : Italy

The Italian painter Paolo Paschetto, born in Torre Pellice in 1885 and deceased in Turin in 1963, developed a practice combining painting, decoration and drawing applied to different supports. He attended the Institute of Fine Arts in Rome, where he was already exhibiting his work as a student. From 1914 to 1948, he taught decoration at the institute. Born into an Evangelical Baptist family, he joined the Baptist Church as an adult.

His works include the wall decorations for the Waldensian Temple in Rome in 1914, as well as drawings for the cartoons for its stained-glass windows. His work also includes stamp designs produced between 1921 and 1945. Paschetto won the competition for the emblem of the Italian Republic, approved by the Constituent Assembly on 31 January 1948; according to the source, the initial design was subsequently heavily amended for non-artistic reasons.
