Paul Kleinschmidt (1883–1949), a German painter born in Bublitz, Pomerania, and who died in Bensheim. The Art Institute of Chicago lists *Head of a Woman with a Blue Necklace*, dated 1932.
In *Olivenhain, Landschaft aus dem Süden* (1946), the landscape takes an olive grove in the south as its subject: this oil on canvas is monogrammed at the lower left; the date and title *Landschaft (Olivenbäume)* appear on the reverse. According to the sale notice, Kleinschmidt painted it in Bensheim after sketches made in the south of France. The same work is recorded in the exhibition devoted to Kleinschmidt at the Kölnischer Kunstverein in 1952, which brought together works made between 1922 and 1949. The published provenance mentions private ownership in Basel, followed by a private collection in Germany, before the work passed by inheritance to a Swiss private collection.
This profile brings together identity references for Paul Kleinschmidt and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
3 references are documented at Kornfeld, Schuler, Lempertz. Each record links to its source; the amounts are not a general valuation of the artist’s work.
