The British painter Thomas Somerscales (1842–1927) lived and worked in Chile. In 1869, an illness related to malaria forced him to disembark at Valparaíso, where he settled. He exhibited in the salons of Santiago and received several distinctions there.
On the reverse of the stretcher of Off Tarapaca are the title and the inscription “The coast of the desert”.
This profile brings together identity references for Thomas Somerscales and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
