French painter Jean-Jacques Morvan, born in Paris in 1928 and deceased in 2005, also works as an actor, journalist, critic and singer-songwriter. After entering the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in 1945, he presents his first solo exhibition in Paris at the Galerie La Boétie in 1951. From 1959, Morvan divides his time between Paris, Brittany and Saumane-de-Vaucluse, where he sets up his studio in a former oil mill. As an official painter of the French Navy, he is notably featured at the Musée d’art de Toulon in 1992 in the exhibition *Mers et océans*; in 2000, the Musée de la résistance in Amsterdam hosts an exhibition devoted to his painting, *Un cri sans voix – Départ et répression*.
