Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he was a pupil of Alexandre Cabanel, Georges Jean-Marie Haquette then pursued an unusual path: after his studies, he became a sailor. His maritime experience enabled him to capture picturesque scenes from life, which became the subjects of his compositions. He took part in the Salon des artistes français and had a studio near the cliff of Pollet in Dieppe.
Among the documented works are Le Départ pour Terre-Neuve, dated 1882, and La Bénédiction de la mer (sur la jetée du Pollet), dated 1890. The latter is listed in the collections of the Château-musée de Dieppe. Pêche en pleine mer, dated 1901, is listed at the musée des beaux-arts de Rouen. An auction catalogue also describes a Nature morte by Haquette, signed and dated « 31 Mai » 1880, with its dimensions given as 54.5 × 75 cm.
This profile brings together identity references for Georges Jean-Marie Haquette and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
2 references are documented at Artcurial Beurret Bailly Widmer, Dobiaschofsky. Each record links to its source; the amounts are not a general valuation of the artist’s work.
