Edmund Alleyn (1931–2004), born in Québec City, studied with Jean-Paul Lemieux and Jean Dallaire at its school of fine arts. He lived in France from 1955 to 1970. His painting moved from nonfiguration towards imagery in which technology and electronics played an increasingly important role.
Developed between 1968 and 1970, Introscaphe is a multisensory capsule combining projections, sounds and temperature changes. It was presented at the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris in 1970. In Une belle fin de journée, exhibited in Québec and Montréal in 1974, Alleyn placed figures painted on Plexiglas before landscape paintings. He subsequently continued his pictorial investigations, notably in the Indigo series, while teaching for more than fifteen years at the University of Ottawa.
This profile brings together identity references for Edmund Alleyn and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
