Arthur William Heintzelman

Born : 1890Died : 1965Documented citizenships : United States

Arthur William Heintzelman (1890–1965) combined artistic production with teaching and the care of print collections. Trained at the Rhode Island School of Design, he continued his studies in several European countries before teaching in Detroit and at his former school. A printmaker and painter, he also practised drawing, including portraiture in charcoal. Lecturing and writing offered further ways to communicate his knowledge of the graphic arts. He became the first Keeper of Prints at the Boston Public Library and also held responsibilities within the Print Council of America. This presence in both the studio and public institutions characterises a career in which making images accompanied their study, preservation and presentation to an audience.

This profile brings together identity references for Arthur William Heintzelman and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
