Albert Lang (1847–1933) was born in Karlsruhe and died in Munich. He belonged to the Leibl circle and was connected with Wilhelm Trübner. His work encompasses landscape, still life and mythological subjects. Landscape Study at Ariccia, catalogued as 1871 by the Lenbachhaus, uses pencil heightened with white: observation of an Italian setting becomes a graphic exploration of tonal values.
Still Life with White Chrysanthemums and Apples (1881), in the Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, is a vertical oil painting on canvas. This grouping of flowers and fruit finds a different counterpart in Apollo and Two Muses, a chalk drawing on cardboard in the Städel Museum. Together, these works reveal movement between observed landscape motifs, assembled objects and figures drawn from the imaginative world of antiquity.
This profile brings together identity references for Albert Lang and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
