Born in Hengelo in 1925, Theo Wolvecamp was present at the founding of the Experimental Group in Holland in July 1948; a few months later, he became a member of CoBrA. He took drawing classes during the Second World War, then was admitted to the art academy in Arnhem in 1945, leaving in 1947. He subsequently settled in Amsterdam, where he met Corneille and Appel. He also worked with painters from his region and initially worked in a Cubist style.
The CoBrA event at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in November 1949 led him to leave the movement; he rejoined it shortly afterwards. At the end of 1951, he took part in CoBrA’s closing exhibition in Liège.
