Zoran Mušič — also referred to in sources as Zoran Music or Anton Zoran Mušič — developed a body of work in which painting and works on paper sit alongside printmaking, while several series return to the landscapes of the Adriatic, Venice and the experience of Dachau. Enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1930, he studied there with Ljubo Babić. In the spring of 1935, a stay in Madrid and Toledo led him to study and copy works by El Greco, Velázquez and Goya; after this trip, he published Po Španiji in Umetnost, a student journal from Ljubljana, in a text described as his first text.

From 1936 to 1940, he spent every summer on Korčula. At Dachau, he secretly made around two hundred drawings of his fellow prisoners as they were dying or after they had died; according to the source, only around a hundred were preserved after the war. In October 1945, he went to Venice, where Ida Cadorin lent him her studio.

He took up printmaking in 1947 with drypoints and etchings, and made lithographs the following year. The series from this period include Terres dalmates, Terres d’Istrie and Terres adriatiques. The Art Institute of Chicago lists Terres Dalmates, dated 1959, among his works. In 1951, the painting prize of the « prix Paris », held in Cortina d’Ampezzo, was awarded to Mušič and Antonio Corpora; it included a solo exhibition at the Galerie de France. The following year, Myriam Prévot and Gildo Caputo organised his first exhibition in Paris and offered him a contract that enabled him to live between Venice and Paris.

Between 1970 and 1976, the series Nous ne sommes pas les derniers returned to his experience of Dachau. In 1972, the Musée d’art moderne de la ville de Paris devoted a retrospective to him, described by the source as the institution’s first retrospective dedicated to a living painter. From the 1980s onwards, he developed new series devoted to visions of Venice. A permanent exhibition of his works is presented at the National Gallery of Ljubljana.
