Grant Hacking is a wildlife painter particularly associated with depictions of Africa’s large animals. Having moved to the United States in 1990, he credits the bold colours of American art with enriching his painting, while identifying the landscape of his native country as a decisive influence. Childhood memories of the bush inform his search for an atmosphere in which animals remain connected with their surroundings.
The Dogny catalogue records a first-place award at the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in South Carolina in 1996. The following year Hacking signed the oil on panel Oryx. His subjects also include North American wildlife, landscapes and seascapes, informed by his experience of the United States. The Southeastern Wildlife Exposition presented him as its Featured Artist in 2015, marking his sustained involvement in exhibitions devoted to wildlife art.
This profile brings together identity references for Grant Hacking and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
