Japanese painter Tadashi Asoma, born in 1923 and deceased in 2017, followed a path that took him from Japan to Paris and then to New York. In 1958, the Japanese government awarded him a scholarship to study painting in Paris. After this stay, he visited the United States and became interested in contemporary American painting; after a temporary return to Japan, he settled permanently in New York in 1961.
Colour occupies a central place in his practice: the gallery links his interest in colour to the depiction of seasonal changes and describes luminous palettes, light textures and an attachment to nature.
The gallery’s records mention his participation in the group exhibition “Asian Masters Contemporary Chinese”, presented in New York in 2014. They also list a retrospective dedicated to the artist in Palm Beach in 2020, followed by a presentation entitled “Tadashi Asoma” in the same city in 2023. The gallery notes solo and group exhibitions at several venues, including in New York, San Francisco and Tokyo, as well as in Switzerland and Germany. According to the same source, his works are held in public and corporate collections.
