Heinrich Campendonk
Born : 1889Died : 1957Documented citizenships : Germany · Netherlands
Born in Krefeld in 1889 and died in Amsterdam in 1957, Heinrich Campendonk is represented here by a drawing whose postal support is an integral part of the object. Titled Akt vor dem Spiegel, this pencil drawing on a postcard, measuring 14 × 9 cm, is probably dated 1912. The postcard, addressed to Lily Klee in Munich, was dispatched on 7 March 1913.
The sale entry notes the signature “Campendonk” on the reverse and reports that Herbert Campendonk, the artist’s son, confirmed in writing the authenticity of the four cards in question on 25 April 1988. The stated provenance passes through the Klee estate, then by inheritance to Felix Klee, before entering a private collection in Switzerland.
This profile brings together identity references for Heinrich Campendonk and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
7 references are documented at Kornfeld, Lempertz. Each record links to its source; the amounts are not a general valuation of the artist’s work.
