Fritz von Uhde
Born : 1848Died : 1911
The German painter Fritz von Uhde (1848–1911) combines naturalistic and colourist inspiration with subjects that bring the biblical narrative closer to the contemporary world and give space to the working class. The source associates certain pastoral scenes and interior scenes with an Impressionist manner.
After leaving the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts in 1866, he completed his military service from 1867 to 1877 as a riding instructor with the mounted guard regiment. Settling in Munich in 1878, he studied Dutch painting there, then travelled to Paris the following year, to Mihály Munkácsy’s studio. In 1880, he opened a private painting school in Munich with Bruno Piglhein and Hugo von Habermann. Around 1890, he became a royal professor.
