Markus Pernhart (1824–1871), also known as Marko Pernhart, was a Carinthian landscape painter whose work belongs to both Austrian and Slovenian art history. His paintings depict lakes, valleys and Alpine ranges with close attention to light and the configuration of the landscape. They combine the descriptive precision of Biedermeier painting with a Romantic response to the vastness of nature.
The National Gallery of Slovenia holds The Sava River with Šmarna gora (1851) and Bled (1854). These views reflect his interest in places that were also becoming cultural landmarks and tourist destinations. Panoramas assembled from several paintings form another significant part of his work. The National Museum of Slovenia preserves his Panorama from Triglav, dated 1864–1867. His Grossglockner panorama, created between 1857 and 1859, belongs to the Carinthian museum collection. Such panoramic compositions extend the individual landscape view into an encompassing vision of the high mountains. Pernhart died in Klagenfurt in 1871.
