Charles Joseph Beauverie was a French painter, printmaker and illustrator whose career connected Lyon, Auvers-sur-Oise and the Forez region. He trained with Louis Guy at the Lyon art school and subsequently in Charles Gleyre’s Paris studio, making his Salon debut in 1864. In Auvers he knew Daubigny and Dr Gachet and worked for the publisher Alfred Cadart. His prints include villages and thatched cottages in the surrounding countryside. Introduced to the Forez by Félix Thiollier, he settled in Poncins and painted many landscapes of the region. Rural scenes, rivers and changing light informed a practice that also encompassed still lifes and reproductive engravings after paintings by Millet.
