Silvano Bozzolini’s practice spans abstract painting, works on paper and stained glass. After creating his first abstract painting in 1946, he pursues wood engraving, illustration and collage alongside painting; in 1964, he also designs a set of twenty-four stained-glass windows for the church of Boust in Moselle. He studies art in Rome in 1928, then continues his training in Milan as a self-taught artist. Drafted during the war and sent to Albania and Greece, he is wounded; in the summer of 1943, he joins the Maquis in the Siena region.
In 1946–1947, he takes part in the Arte d’Oggi group, at the time he creates his first abstract painting. After a trip to Paris, he decides to settle there at the end of 1947. There he meets, among others, Jean Dewasne, Victor Vasarely, Émile Gilioli, Robert Mortensen, Egil Jacobsen and Poliakoff, and becomes part of the Espace group. According to the biography published by Galerie Champetier, his first solo exhibition takes place in Sofia in 1934; his first Paris exhibition, devoted to prints, is held at the Librairie La Hune in 1951. He exhibits at Galerie Denise René in 1954. His work as a printmaker also includes illustrations for Quatre piraines by Jean Arp, published by Éditions J. Pons in 1949.
La Jérusalem céleste, created in 1964 for the church of Boust, is a set of twenty-four stained-glass windows made from engraved glass slabs. The biography published by Galerie Champetier states that works by Bozzolini are held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, as well as in museums in São Paulo, Liège, Skopje, Nantes and the City of Paris. He is appointed Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters in the promotion of 19 February 1993. He dies in 1998.
