Born in Bayburt in 1947, Hanefi Yeter is a Turkish artist working across painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics. He studied at Istanbul’s Academy of Fine Arts in the studio of Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, before continuing his education in Paris and Berlin. His years in Berlin, beginning in the 1970s, strongly shaped his career and his engagement with experiences of migration.
His works address relationships between individuals and society, memory and belonging, humanity and nature. Human figures appear alongside more reduced and condensed forms. Yeter also developed a substantial practice in public art: murals, ceramic facades, mosaics and sculptures enter into architectural settings in Germany and Turkey. This range of media connects his investigations as a painter with the spaces and experiences of collective life.
