Wilhelm Gallhof (1878–1918), from Iserlohn, worked in painting and printmaking. The register of Munich’s Academy of Fine Arts records his enrolment on 22 October 1900, aged twenty-two, in Johann Caspar Herterich’s life class. The Winckelmann-Museum in Stendal holds his Landscape with an Avenue of Trees, an etching printed in Munich by Heinz Welleroth.
Wind-bent trees and rain clouds give this print an atmospheric character. The human figure features in Two Reclining Nudes, an oil painting on thin cardboard mounted on cardboard, included in Schuler’s 2022 catalogue. A label from Heinrich Thannhauser’s Moderne Galerie in Munich remains on its reverse. These works document two areas of Gallhof’s activity: the etched landscape and the painted nude, each approached through a different medium.
This profile brings together identity references for Wilhelm Gallhof and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
