Rudolf Reschreiter (1868–1938) combines mountaineering with the representation of mountain landscapes. Trained in Munich, he works particularly in watercolour. His view of the Rotwandhaus, painted in 1907, shows skiers using a single pole and places visits to the mountain hut within the landscape. The image records human practices as well as a particular site.
In 1903, he accompanies geographer Hans Meyer to Ecuador as expedition painter. His depictions of Cotopaxi and Chimborazo extend this descriptive attention to the Andes. Taschachferner, presented by the Ötztaler Museen in their glacier exhibition, belongs to the Alpine side of his work. The Austrian Alpine Club also preserves examples. Between recreation scenes, glacier studies and travel documentation, his painting connects experience in the field with knowledge of mountain formations.
This profile brings together identity references for Rudolf Reschreiter and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
