Napoleone Angiolini (1797–1871) was an Italian painter whose career was closely connected with Bologna. He trained at the city’s Academy of Fine Arts and received a scholarship in 1824 for a stay in Rome. There he painted subjects featuring Saint Paul, Ulysses and Socrates. His practice brought together teaching, religious painting and decoration. In Bologna, he taught the fundamentals of figure drawing until 1860 and undertook work for the Pallavicini Centurioni family. He also participated in restoring the Sala Farnese in the municipal palace. In 1870, he completed the ceiling of San Sigismondo, depicting Imelda Lambertini and Aloysius Gonzaga.
